AJ Bell Great Manchester Run May 26th 2024
I would like to support and raise awareness of a not so common autoimmune disorder Systemic Sclerosis also known as Scleroderma.
Symptoms can include thickening & hardening of all skin tissues. This is due to the body producing too much collagen!
This includes all outer skin and tissues that are around all organs etc.
It’s very common to have problems with swallowing as the oesophagus can be restricted. Also lungs are often affected with scar tissue, causing breathing difficulties.
As a secondary disease Scleroderma patients often suffer with severe Raynauds symptoms.
As blood vessels in extremities can be narrowed, this can stop blood circulation to the tips of fingers and toes. Often ulcers and sores occur on fingers.
Can become extremely painful gangrene, leading to amputation of the tips of fingers and toes!
My wife has been suffering from Scleroderma & Raynauds for 30 years.
She also has an overlap with Systemic Lupus Erythmatosis commonly known as Lupus.
For 30 years my wife has been in daily pain and symptoms increase often.
Now her mobility is affected.
Scleroderma scarring combined with Covid-19 has made her extremely breathless because of the effect on her lungs.
Has had several fingertip amputations. Plus a whole list of other symptoms!
While no cure is known, treatment with medications may improve some symptoms.
I’d be grateful if you could donate and read articles online. This would help raise awareness of Scleroderma & Raynauds.
All donations gratefully received and will be for SRUK to forward research into a cure and treatments.
