Sense International Bhutan Trek 2024 · 28 November 2024

Trekking in Bhutan promises a glimpse of the Himalaya that will be challenging but worthy. Our team will be raising money for Sense International, which has been working for 30 years to build a brighter future for people with deafblindess worldwide.

Story

In November 2024, I am leading a group of people who will trek the Druk Path in Bhutan reaching an altitude of 4,300m, in order to raise funds for Sense International (SI). The Druk Path between Paro and Thimpu is a network of original mule trails linking the two cities and there is very little infrastructure along the way. We will be camping for most of the duration of the trek. I love my home comforts but will bear with sleeping in a tent and sleeping bag when night time temperatures are expected to be -5C to -15C.

All the participants are self-funding the cost of the trek therefore your donation will go directly to SI and the beneficiaries. As I approach 65 years of age, I ask myself why I bother with this endurance and discomforts on the trek? This will be my 8th fund raising trek for SI over the last 22 years. But It has been said – “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”

HELP MAKE MY EFFORT WORTHWHILE. PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY. I WILL MATCH ANY DONATION YOU MAKE TO A TOTAL OF £10,000.

SI is the only international non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting people with deafblindness and their families. SI works on the ground in eight countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Peru and Romania to identify children with deafblindness as early as possible in life so that, with the right support, they are able to thrive. It improves access to quality education, healthcare and vocational training so that children and young people with deafblindness can become independent, establish a livelihood and the means to earn a living enabling them thrive and live life to their full potential.

Please watch this 2 minute video to understand why I feel so motivated to this cause
