Sunita's fundraiser for Alzheimer's Society

Sunita Parmar is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Team: CN Charity Walk 2026. - MIDLANDS

In memory of Grandad Parmar

Eight regional walks will take place simultaneously across the UK - each covering 12.3 miles, each raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society. · 12 June 2026

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

This year marks 10 years since we lost my father-in-law to Alzheimer’s. For our family, that loss feels even greater with time. We lost him before we started our own family, meaning our son and daughter have never had the chance to meet their Grandad. His absence is felt in all the moments that matter most — birthdays, school sports days, football matches, family celebrations, and the everyday memories we wish he could have shared with us.

We make sure his memory lives on in our home and in our conversations, so taking part in this charity walk in his memory, on the 10-year anniversary of losing him, feels incredibly special. Our children understand why I am doing this, and they are so proud to know we are helping honour their Grandad’s memory. We know he’ll be looking down, cheering us on every step of the way.

If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean so much to us. Every contribution helps support vital research, care, and support for families facing the heartbreak of dementia, and brings hope that one day other families may be spared our experience.

Thank you so much for your support. Sunita x

Collaboration Network - Vulnerability Week Charity Walk 2026

On 12 June 2026, the Midlands team will walk 12.3 miles in aid of the Alzheimer's Society - as part of a national day of walking that will see eight groups cross 98.2 miles collectively across the UK.

Our walk is led by Delahenty Consulting, and every step we take is for the 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK right now.

We're raising funds as part of the Collaboration Network's national target of £9,820 - £1 for every 100 people living with dementia. Every pound you donate goes directly to the Alzheimer's Society to fund care, research and support for people and families whose lives have been changed by dementia.

Right now, there are an estimated 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK - and more than a third of them do not have a diagnosis. That number is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040. The cost of dementia to the UK is already forecast at £42 billion in 2024, rising to £90 billion by 2040.

Behind those numbers are families navigating one of the most overwhelming experiences of their lives. 63% of the total cost of dementia is borne by patients and their families themselves - and 70% of unpaid carers report that their mental or physical health has been negatively affected. A 2025 survey found that 1 in 5 people with dementia have not received any health and care support at all.

Alzheimer's Society is a vital lifeline for everyone affected. From the moment of diagnosis, they provide personalised support, fund vital research, and campaign for a world where people living with dementia are treated with the dignity and care they deserve. Dementia is the UK's biggest killer - claiming over 76,000 lives in 2024 alone. The scale of what's needed is enormous. But so is the community of people who refuse to look away.

That's why we walk. That's why we fundraise. And that's why, this year, we're taking it to every corner of the UK.
