Story
On October 3rd 2025 we will be flying to Tanzania in Africa to trek Mount Kilimanjaro to tick off a major bucket list item and raise awareness for Type 1 Diabetes.
We will be trekking on the Machame Route, aiming to start our final climb to the summit on the night of October 8th - a lucky birthday coincidence!
We are partnering with Breakthrough T1D for our trek to raise donations and awareness of Type 1 Diabetes. Their mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications as well as, most importantly, spreading vital awareness and providing support to young people diagnosed with this disease. June marked 12 years since Helen was diagnosed with Type 1. Sometimes taking it to an extreme (like attempting to climb Kilimanjaro), Helen has always been determined to not let diabetes stop her from doing anything, and so as much as this is to raise some funds for charity, our goal here is to also raise awareness and to show that with the right control and support you can still live life to the full.
This is a fully self-funded trip by ourselves (rip to our savings!!) so any donations that you do make will go directly to our chosen charity.
Diabetes mixed with altitude definitely isn't going to make this an easy stroll and we've got quite the intensive training plan for the next 3 months, so if anyone fancies joining us for a 10-hour weekend walk or buying Helen a pack of sugar tablets, please do let us know!
We are super excited (and scared and naive) about the challenge we are taking on and will give it everything we have to reach the top.
Thanks in advance for all your support - lots of love,
Sunny and Helen xxx
