Story

This Just Giving page is in tribute to Alan Jamieson who sadly but peacefully passed away on 11th November 2023.

Alan lived a full and adventurous life with a great big smile on his face and was loved by so many.

When Alan's first grandaughter, Ashleigh, was born in 1990 with cerebral palsy Alan doted on her but he was also aware in the years to follow the 24 hour care she required could take its toll on her family carers.

His second grandaughter, Rebekah, began attending her local young carers group at Glasgow South East Carers Centre when she was around 8 years old. The support, understanding and kindness she received from staff and other young carers was outstanding. She went on to be the voice of young carers in Glasgow. Won Carer of the Year and as an ambassador for young carers spoke at the Scottish Parliament.

When she became too old to attend the group she kept in touch with the centre manager and regularly popped in and volunteered. She continues to this day to volunteer at the annual Young Carers Festival.

Later, Alan's daughter, Susan, went on to work for the same Carers Centre for 3 years. He enjoyed listening to her passion for the role and her giving back for all the years of support her own children had received.

With the views of local young carers and Susan 'YC Connect' was born and continues to this day.

All money raised in this page will be ringfenced for this incredible group of young carers who devote so much time to caring for their parents or siblings during their childhood.

Thank you from all the family for any contribition you can make.
