When lives are shattered by a life-changing injury Day One Trauma Support is there to help piece them back together. We are the only national charity to provide personalised care to anyone affected by a catastrophic injury of any kind, their loved ones and their families – for as long it takes.

As a Day One caseworker, I support people with life-changing injuries across Newcastle and beyond. I work alongside NHS colleagues on the Major Trauma Ward at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).

My role is to help patients and families whose lives have been turned upside down because of a catastrophic injury.

Every day I see the impact these injuries have on patients and their families. They have so many questions. They face so many unknowns.

I'm proud that I get to help in some way and see the massive difference Day One Trauma Support makes. From the emotional support people need (I always come armed with a brew and plenty of tissues), to the practical difference I can make through emergency grants, legal, welfare and benefits advice. And I know our fabulous team of Peer Support Volunteers are at the ready to have those conversations when the time is right as they can give an insight through their lived experience that no one else can give.

So... this year I have decided to get out of my comfort zone and take on a challenge to raise money for this wonderful cause.

I'm taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks - covering a whopping 24.5 miles and 5,000ft ascent in 12 hours!

I know it's going to be tough, but it's nothing compared to the struggles and journey our patients face every day.

So please give what you can and support me on this personal challenge so Day One can reach more people who face rebuilding their entire life following major trauma.
