Story
It has now been just over two years since my wonderful husband, Francis, died and as a family we are slowly learning to live with the grief and loss with good days and bad days, laughter and tears.
I want to do something to honour Francis’s memory so am embarking (again!) on the Ride Across Britain, Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle ride in September. Francis was always rather bemused and amused by my cycling exploits but always supportive and encouraging in his own unique way! I will leave you to fill in the gaps… suffice to say on my first ever ‘proper’ bike ride he popped up beside me in the Mazda MX5 and said “You are not going very fast” before speeding off aided by petrol-power! Supportive… perhaps, a challenge… definitely!
As some of you know, Francis was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in late March 2022, a disease about which we knew absolutely nothing and had never crossed our minds, and which is not widely discussed in the media. Having searched online looking for support, guidance and advice, we came across the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust. Sadly, before we could contact them Francis died suddenly three weeks after his diagnosis.
So, I will be pedalling the 980 miles through England, Wales and Scotland to raise funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust in his name. I am hoping he will be pushing me up the hills and liaising with his mates in the celestial weather department to ensure it is neither too hot, nor too cold, nor too wet, nor too sunny… am I asking too much?
It would be wonderful if you could sponsor me and help support this amazing charity which does so much for those living with this dreadful disease. I know the ride will be tough in places but with your support and Francis in spirit, and large dollops of chamois cream (Google it!) anything and everything can be overcome.
Many thanks and with love
