Story
My ‘Significant Birthday’ fundraising is for St.Michael’s Hospice; in memory of India Wilkinson, a colleague’s wonderful daughter. I aim to walk the Malvern Hills, end to end, thanks to three new hips in the last decade!
I work at Malvern St.James, the school that India attended along with her sister, Libby; their mother is Zinnia Wilkinson, Head of Pastoral Care. The school supported me throughout my illness.
Following two successful hip operations in 2016/17, I regained full mobility and returned to full time work. Unfortunately a pesky infection in March 2023 led to the removal of my right hip, a month in hospital & 9wks of twice daily intravenous antibiotics, a gruesome experience! I finally had a second replacement at the end of November 2023. It took most of 2024 to recover and rebuild my body mass in order to return to full time work.
I am now able to take this challenge on and hopefully raise funds in India’s name.
The plan is to generate much needed funds for the Hospice.
If you have a few moments, please watch the video that India made in the last 3 weeks of her life while she was with St Michael's. Click here to view.
If you can support me I would be so grateful; your help in supporting St.Michael’s really will make a difference.
The Hospice multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, social workers, chaplains and counsellors. These specialist Hospice staff work together and often in partnership with the NHS to relieve patients’ symptoms, control their pain and help them to live well until the end of life. It is vital that everyone that needs it has the appropriate care and support they need to cope with the complex feelings and lifestyle changes caused by a terminal illness.
