Welcome, my name is Suzanne and I am fundraising for an amazing organization, Little Angels Service Dogs. They are one of only a handful of avenues to obtain a service dog for someone like myself. I have Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) caused by extended childhood trauma.

Symptoms of C-PTSD include hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks (especially body memories), dissociation, anxiety and a perceived lack of safety in many everyday situations.

A highly specialized PTSD service dog performs many tasks that lessen the impact. Because much of experienced trauma gets stored in the body, recovery involves a variety of somatic (body based) therapies. This is why a service dog is such a great fit for C-PTSD. A service dog provides physical and tactile support on a daily basis, in the moment, exactly when an individual is triggered. I need touch reminders that I am safe instead of being told I am safe. My body needs to get the message just as much as my brain does.

Receiving my service dog will be truly life changing. I am most looking forward to being more independent every day and travelling more. I am so excited to move on to a richer, fuller chapter in my life. If you would like to read more about me and the impact of a dog, surf on over to my blog.
