Snowdon Climb for Cavernoma 2025 · 7 June 2025 ·

Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) supports everyone affected by cavernoma. A cavernoma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spine. It is more common than many realise yet often unheard of. Our mission is to find a cure and to improve lives through support, information and research.

Story

Trekking Snowdon for Cavernoma Alliance UK

On the 7th June, I am taking on the challenge of trekking up Snowdon, the highest mountain, to raise money for Cavernoma Alliance UK.

Here's my reason why:

Just over a year ago I had no idea I had a Cavernoma on my brainstem. Following a Hemorrhagic Stroke (bleed on the brain), a brain scan revealed a small cluster of tangled blood vessels on my brainstem. Within 24 hrs I was told I had a Cavernoma and my life changed indefinitely.

Experiencing a brain bleed firsthand showed me just how life-changing and unpredictable this condition can be. Cavernomas can affect anyone at any time, and funding for vital research and support for those impacted is something I’m deeply passionate about.

When I was diagnosed, Cavernoma Alliance UK connected me with a CaverBuddy - someone who had been through the same journey and could offer guidance and reassurance. Their support made all the difference, helping me navigate the uncertainty and tough decisions that come with this condition.

If you can, please donate whatever you can spare - every little bit helps. I would be incredibly grateful!

💡 What is a cavernoma?

Cavernomas are clusters of abnormal blood vessels that look like raspberries. Found in the brain and spinal cord, these vessels have thin, leaky walls which can bleed without warning at any age. While 1 in 625 people are thought to have a cavernoma, 1 in 2,700 experience symptoms, including:

🍓Brain haemorrhages

🍓Seizures

🍓Neurological problems
