65-Year-Old Climbs Mount Olympus to Save Greece’s Strays 🐾
Climbing Mount Olympus for the Strays 🐾
At 65, and after recently battling lumbago, I’ve set myself one of the toughest challenges of my life—to climb Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece.
At the end of June I’ll be taking on this demanding two-day hike with my friend Karen Hill Merkouriadi. We’ll trek for hours to reach a mountain refuge on day one, before setting off before sunrise for the final summit push on day two. With steep, rocky terrain and high altitude, this climb is considered challenging even for younger, experienced hikers—but that’s exactly why I’m doing it.
Because this isn’t just about me.
Across Greece, an estimated 4 million stray dogs and cats are struggling to survive—through freezing winters, scorching summers, no access to water, and constant danger. You see them everywhere: on beaches, in remote countryside, abandoned on mountains, and injured on the streets—many suffering from conditions like mange and leishmania, or recovering from car accidents with no one to help them.
As the founder of Greek Stray ResQ, I believe if I’m not willing to go the extra mile for them, I can’t ask others to care.
Funds raised will go directly to where they are needed most:
• Neutering programmes—our number one priority to reduce suffering at its root
• Food and basic care for strays still living on the streets
• Urgent veterinary treatment for sick and injured animals
• Emergency rescues and shelter rebuilding, especially after extreme weather
Every step I take up that mountain is for them—the ones with no voice and no choice.
If you can support this effort, your donation will make a real, immediate difference:
• €10 helps feed strays in desperate conditions
• €50 can cover essential vaccinations
• €100 can help save a life
Thank you for standing with us and giving them a chance they would never have without you 🐶🐱💙
