3 year old Evie is walking 3 miles to raise money for the charity Let’s Read. Her mummy Suzy, who will be accompanying her on the walk, is Charity Executive for Let’s Read.
Let’s Read is a local, Woking based charity that’s supports primary schools and young local children with literacy skill in 2 ways:
1. A team of volunteer tutors visit 4 schools on a weekly basis and offers 1:1 reading sessions with Year 2 children.
2. At the end of each term, book presentations take place at 11 schools. Over 400 children in Year 2 receive brand new books to keep - that’s over 12,000 books a year!
The charity would love to continue supporting the community, especially those children who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. There are many children who do not have access to books or are not read to at home. Poor literacy levels lead to unemployment, crime, substance abuse and theft. Reading is a fundamental skill that paves the wave for all other skills including writing and maths. Any donation (no matter how big or small) will support Let’s Read to purchase books for these children and help us update tutoring materials.
