Story

Help us raise much-needed funds for Sunflowers Suicide Support, a Gloucestershire charity that provides support for people bereaved or affected by suicide.

A group of 30 regular swimmers, aged between 18 and 80, at the Cheltenham Ladies' College pool have a 2-hour slot on Sunday 17th March 2024, to see if we can collectively swim the distance of The English Channel to France and back in the pool. It is a total distance of 67.6km = 2,704 lengths! We think we can do it!!

Everything you donate will be doubled through the generous support of Pete and Lucy Eggleston through a match funding agreement with their Eggleston Charitable Foundation. So please give generously...

Sunflowers Suicide Support is founded by people who know the pain and trauma of losing a loved one to suicide. They aim to offer support to others who are bereaved or affected by suicide.

They have several schemes for suicide prevention and to help with suicide bereavement. To see what your donations will go towards please visit: https://sunflowerssuicidesupport.org.uk/donate.

Belinda lost her father to suicide and knows several people who have lost family members, so she has decided to help others in a similar or potentially similar situation.

About the charity

Sunflowers was created in memory of Pete Morris who died by suicide in 2016. His family developed the Charity to walk alongside others bereaved by suicide and to be a small ray of light in the darkness; offering others comfort and support that is so desperately needed at such a difficult time. Sunflowers endeavour to provide other families with practical and professional support so they do not feel overwhelmed and alone. This we hope will give a glimmer of hope for the future. Sunflowers also raise awareness around mental health and suicide both on social media and by networking locally and nationally. We deliver accredited training to the wider community and presentations sharing our story. We highlight that it is Okay to not be ‘Okay’ and the importance of talking and of course listening. We feel that everyone can play a small part in connecting with and helping others to feel less alone.
