Story
Siobhan and I took early retirement in our mid 50s in order to spend more time together doing things we enjoyed and also to see as much as possible of our first grandchild, Amber who was born in January 2023
After being diagnosed in the middle of April with pancreatic cancer, devastatingly for all of us and for her friends Siobhan passed away on 30th May 2023. The purpose of raising funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK is to both raise awareness of the early symptoms to help early diagnosis and also help them give financial support to really make a difference to people who are suffering from this cruellest of diseases and also to enable them to provide support to their loved ones.
Early diagnosis is absolutely crucial which, had we been better informed may have given Siobhan a greater chance of receiving treatment and even of survival.
Pancreatic Cancer UK say the following:
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
In memory of Siobhan; myself, her friends and family will be attempting to swim the equivalent of the width of the English Channel (21 miles), rounded off with an evening of entertainment (more details to follow).
This would not have been possible without the generosity of Daryl and the team at The Castle Country Club, near Shrewsbury who have kindly donated their pool, premises and facilities for the whole day. We welcome you to come and support us in person.
We are aiming to raise as much as possible to increase awareness of this lesser known cancer, which has one of the highest fatality rates. Any amount you are able to donate will make a difference but please do give as generously as you are able and thank you to everybody.
