Swimcredibles North Channel Relay Swim

North Channel Relay Swim
Swimcredibles’ Story
This August, the Swimcredibles relay team are plunging into the ultimate swimming challenge – the North Channel! Swimming from Donaghadee, Northern Ireland and finishing in Portpatrick, Scotland (21.4 miles+ / 34.5 k+). The North Channel is widely considered the most difficult of the 'Oceans Seven' open water channel swims, due to its cold water, strong tides & currents, unpredictable weather, and the presence of the dangerous Lion's Mane jellyfish. The swim has to be completed in normal swimwear - no wetsuits allowed ! Since 1947, when the North Channel became an option, only 67 relay teams have successfully achieved a crossing compared to over 1000 crossing the English Channel.
Our intrepid team consisting of Andy Cannon, Ben Daggett, Hannah Dermott, Diogo Figueiredo, Jana Lowry, Andy McCleane & Regina Thompson, along with our dedicated Coach Dorothy Johnston and Mentor Chris Judge, are excited to take on this challenge with all the courage and determination we have!
This is so much more than just a team challenge for us though. We are raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support Northern Ireland, a Charity close to all our hearts with one of our team undergoing cancer treatment. One in two of us will develop cancer during our lifetime according to the NHS and Cancer Research UK, therefore affecting most of our lives. Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that provides services and support to people affected by cancer, including emotional, practical, and financial assistance, as well as advocacy and research into cancer care.
Macmillan Cancer Support is here to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer, and the Swimcredibles are committed to raising much needed funds in support of this.
Please help us reach our goal of £10,000 to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can.
*Every penny you kindly donate will go straight to the Macmillan Cancer Support Northern Ireland Charity. No donated money will be used to fund the challenge - it is fully self-funded by the team themselves. All money goes straight to Macmillan!
