Swim for James

George Askew is raising money for James' Place Charity
In memory of James Wentworth-Stanley

Swimming the English Channel Solo · 26 June 2026

Our mission is to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. Since opening in 2018, we’ve helped over 4,300 suicidal men access free, life-saving therapy at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle. 75% of deaths by suicide are men, but suicides are preventable. Donate today to help save lives.

Story

At James' Place, our mission is to stop men dying by suicide. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 50. We believe that no man should face a suicidal crisis alone. James' Place provides free, professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future. It costs £2000 to support one man through this lifesaving intervention. Help George save 21 men, one mile of sea swum for each man. But like the sea’s unpredictability, there will be many more miles swum and more lives that need saving.
