Rebecca More is raising money for Refuge
In memory of Sophie Anderson

Ironman 70.3 Swansea · 13 July 2025

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

From personal experience, I have had the support of Women's Refuge back in 2004 when my Daughter and I were given a safe location to live until we got our own place. So not only is this charity very dear to my heart, it's also important to raise awareness about domestic violence.

I feel that this charity is the best choice in honour of Sophie's memory. The last time I saw sophie was the 12th September 2023. On this day she had shown me her physical scars from where she had been abused. I had seen the damage that had been done from domestic violence. Those are scars that will never leave me.

One in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime and on average one woman is killed every 5 days in England and Wales by a current or former partner.

Refuge is the largest single provider of specialist services to survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse and runs the freephone, 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline that provides the first step to women escaping abuse.

By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and their children. Thank you
