For many children around the world, living near water does not mean knowing how to swim.

In many communities, rivers, lakes and oceans can be a part of daily life; places where families work, travel, gather or play. But when children don’t have access to swimming lessons or water safety education, those same waters can also become sources of fear, exclusion, or danger. In some communities, swimming is still treated as a privilege rather than a basic life skill. This leaves children and families without the tools they need to feel safe and confident in open water.

SwimTayka is working to change that.

SwimTayka provides free swimming lessons, drowning prevention education, and clean water stewardship programs for children living along the world’s open waters. Their mission is powerful: to prevent children from drowning, and ensure that no child is denied access to life-saving swimming education because of their economic status.

Through partnerships with local communities and volunteer swim instructors, SwimTayka helps children build confidence in and around water, while learning practical skills that can protect them for life. By teaching children to respect and understand the water around them, their programs support safer communities, and encourage a deeper sense of responsibility for clean water and the environment.

SwimTayka’s programs include:

Free swimming lessons to help children gain confidence and overcome fear.

Drowning prevention and water safety education that teach children to recognize risks, respond safely, and understand the importance of water awareness

Volunteer instructor programs that connect instructors with communities around the world, helping expand access to swimming education

ARMY’s donation will support SwimTayka’s ongoing effort to provide children with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to stay safe around water.
