Story
Aberlour Sycamore Services is made up of several children’s houses, offering a safe and loving place to live for children who are unable to remain with their families. There are five homes across Fife and Tayside, and two in the Highlands that are at the heart of their local communities.
Our vision is that our houses will provide a loving home where everyone laughs, learns, grows into the future, and is treasured always.
As Aberlour celebrate 150 years, the Sycamore community are coming together to mark the occasion with a ‘Big Walk’. The Aberlour Orphanage in Charleston, Aberlour opened in 1875 closing in 1967. Later that year, the first Sycamore residential home opened in October 1967, at Whytemans Brae, Kirkcaldy.
Google Maps tells us that it is 154 miles from Whytemans Brae to the site of the old Orphanage in Aberlour, therefore a perfect opportunity to celebrate the occasion by ‘walking 150 miles for the 150 years’. We will complete the challenge over the summer holidays where adults and children will come together which includes an expedition through the Cairngorms!
Through our Big Walk, the Sycamore team are raising money to create a Children and Families Experience Fund. This will offer the opportunity to support the children who live with us share activities and experiences with their families, making memories that recognise the importance of their relationships.
Thank you very much for your donation, you truly are helping to make a difference.
