World Book Day Readathon · 6 March 2024

Lewisham Foodbank is part of Transform Network. Our Foodbank supports and helps people in food poverty.

Story

To celebrate World Book Day we are inviting Year 7 and 8 students to take part in our Sponsored Readathon for Lewisham Foodbank. This is an opportunity for us to support some of the most vulnerable in our community through an active fundraising campaign, whilst also giving students the chance to develop their literacy and reading skills.

Students should read and raise as much as they can during the two week period.

They should complete the sponsorship form listing how long they have read and how much they have raised.

All sponsorship money should be uploaded here on this page - students should not bring cash into school.

Thank you in advance to all families for supporting this initiative!

From Lewisham Foodbank:

Without the support of our financial donors we would not be able to feed nearly 700 people a week. We are so grateful to you all. We are about more than giving food and essentials. We are about restoring dignity when our system has stripped it away:

"In April I needed a food parcel, first time in my life. I was distraught and embarrassed. I was ashamed in front of my wife, and deeply depressed.

In amongst the pasta & apples there were some CHOCOLATE BISCUITS. We sat with a cuppa, shared them & talked for the first time in months."
