Sydney Marathon 2026...on a shoe string...for George!

JONATHAN Bracey is raising money for MVA Society

Sydney Marathon 2026 · 30 August 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

MVA is a devastating ultra-rare disease with no known treatments—yet. Your donation changes that, funding vital research toward a cure and supporting families who have nowhere else to turn. Every pound you give brings us closer to making treatments possible. We can't do this without you.

Story

One little boy. One rare condition. Three friends running to change his future.

Our good friend's son, George, was diagnosed with cancer at just 2 years old. He battled through that journey — and was then diagnosed with Mosaic Variegated Aneuploidy (MVA) syndrome, an ultra-rare genetic condition that brings a high predisposition to cancer, along with very short stature and learning difficulties.

George is now 5 and, as of today, in good health.

Why we're running

Dylan, Doug, and George's dad, Jonathan (aka "Bubbles"), met at Manchester University in 1990 and have remained great friends ever since. With entries to the Sydney Marathon secured, Dylan, his wife Jan, and Doug are taking on this iconic race to raise funds for George's charity.

Where your money goes

The MVA Society was set up by families like George's to find a treatment. 100% of funds raised goes directly into research, with the hope of identifying one by 2030.

A $50 donation helps move that research forward — every contribution brings a treatment closer.

Thank you for reading George's story, and for anything you're able to give.
