Story
I started running around seven years ago as a way to improve my mental health. At the time, I was going through a difficult period. I was a new mum, dealing with grief and trying to work through some difficult experiences from my past.
When I first started, I could barely run the length of myself! But running quickly became a simple escape. It gave me space to breathe, clear my head and do something just for me. It worked wonders for both my body and my mind.
Fast forward five years and I completed my first half marathon, immediately swearing I would never do another one. I also said I would absolutely never run a marathon. So naturally, here we are - not running a marathon, but taking on our first ultramarathon!
I’ve somehow managed to rope my sister Eli into doing it with me, so we’ll be sharing the miles, pain, sweat and probably a few tears along the way. I’m still not entirely sure how it’s going to go, but we’re training hard and giving it our best shot.
We both believe that everyone should be able to access support when they’re struggling with their mental health, whatever the reason. Talking about mental health isn’t always easy, and having the right support when you need it can make a huge difference.
That’s why we’ve chosen to raise money for Action in Mind, an independent mental health charity based here in Stirling. The charity supports local people experiencing mental health difficulties, as well as their families and carers. Donations help support services such as counselling, peer support, befriending, skills groups and social activities.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to us and help motivate us through every painful mile. Thank you for supporting us and this brilliant local charity.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
