I'm abseiling Coventry Cathedral for local carers!

Taiwo Owatemi is raising money for Carers Trust Heart of England

Coventry Cathedral Abseil · 1 August 2026 ·

We're taking on the Coventry Cathedral Abseil to raise money for local unpaid carers, across Coventry and Warwickshire. Every donation helps Carers Trust Heart of England provide vital support, respite and opportunities for carers in our community.

Story

Every day, millions of unpaid carers quietly hold families together. They support loved ones who are older, disabled, unwell or struggling with their mental health, often while balancing jobs, education and their own wellbeing. Some are young people taking on responsibilities far beyond their years.

As Coventry North West’s MP, I regularly hear from carers who give an extraordinary amount of themselves but do not always receive the recognition or support they deserve. Social care has always been deeply important to me, both because of my NHS background and because of the families I represent.

That is why I am taking on the Coventry Cathedral Abseil for Carers Trust Heart of England. I will be descending one of our city’s most iconic landmarks to raise money for the practical support, respite and wellbeing activities they provide to carers and young carers across Coventry and Warwickshire.

I am aiming to raise £500. Every donation, however large or small, will help make sure that someone who spends so much of their life caring for another person knows that they are not facing it alone.

Thank you for supporting me. I am not entirely sure I will be thanking whoever persuaded me to climb over the edge when I reach the top.
