Story
Members of 400 Tp are taking part in this year’s North Doko Challenge in Leeds organised by Gurkha Welfare Trust. The Doko challenge is to complete a 5km cross-country run carrying a traditional Doko basket weighing either 5kg, 10kg, or 15kg, with a time to beat of 46 minutes.
In Nepal, the traditional Gurkha Recruitment Doko race is an uphill sprint in the Himalayan foothills while carrying a traditional Nepali Doko basket on your back. Potential recruits are expected to complete the course in under 46 minutes. Failure to do so means the end of their Gurkha selection process.
Taking all of this into account, 400 Tp members have volunteered to take on this challenge to see what it takes to become a Gurkha soldier. Together we are fundraising and all proceeds will go to the Gurkha veterans where even a small amount makes a big difference in Nepal. Let’s make it happen.
