Story
During the latter part of the year we have a number of activities planned to support Meal-a-Day.
On 19th September we had a auction of services which was massively successful and added over £1000 to our fundraising. Thanks to all who supported it!
On 21st November we are joining with Sutton Coldfield and Ashby Christadelphians for a ticketed barn dance and meal of jacket potatoes dancing our way to increase the total.
The following week we'll be at Elford Village Hall making wreaths for Christmas where other than the cost the whole of the ticket price is going to the charity too.
Then we will finish the year off with our Church Family Christmas Meal at which donations will continue the support.
If you would like to support Meal-a-Day and attend any of these events please contact jacquie@meal-a-day.org for more details.
Below is why we are doing this:
In a poor rural village in eastern Sierra Leone, a failing primary school with hungry children has become one of the best in the region.
In 2008, the village school had effectively collapsed. Children weren’t attending. Many were orphans. Families couldn’t afford the hidden costs of “free” education. Classrooms were overcrowded and under-resourced.
Through partnership with the local community, CBM and then Meal-a-Day rebuilt and restored the school. Water and latrines were installed. Teachers are funded. Every child receives a daily meal. Today, 290 children attend. Boys and girls in equal numbers. Academic results are strong. Health has improved. Harmful practices have reduced. This is real, lasting change.
But there is still a simple, urgent need.
The school needs 200 desks.
Many children are still squeezed together or learning without proper seating. Desks may seem ordinary to us, but for these children they mean dignity, focus and the chance to learn well.
This is practical. Tangible. Achievable.
Can we help provide those 200 desks?
