Story
Many of you will know it’s been a stressful nine months for us. In June mum was taken to hospital after having a major stroke. For a while we weren’t sure if she would pull through, or what sort of recovery she would make, but she has amazed us all with her resilience and determination. It hasn’t been easy - there have been lots of ups and downs, and more hospital readmissions than we can remember, but we are so proud of all she has achieved.
We owe a huge amount to the amazing doctors, nurses and therapists in Weston General, Southmead and Bristol Royal Infirmary hospitals. Mum wouldn’t be here today without them. And along the way they have given us so much support, information and encouragement.
One thing that Zoe and I have found really helpful during this time is running. It’s got us moving after long hours sitting in a car, at hospital or in front of a laptop, and it has given us a chance to stop worrying for a bit. So we’ve decided to put this to good use by running the AJ Bell Great Bristol 10k on Sunday 11 May to raise some money for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity. The charity works to make a difference to the lives of millions of patients who need the very hospitals that have helped mum. Working alongside University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust it funds tech and research and champions equal access for all patients.
Please help us raise some much-needed money for this excellent cause.
