Refuge4Pets provides a specialist Animal Fostering Service across Devon and Cornwall to victim-survivors of domestic abuse. Often individuals and families escaping domestic abuse are unable to take their animals with them, as most temporary accommodation does not allow pets. In many cases, this will stop people from leaving.

Animals are the silent victims of domestic abuse. They are threatened, yelled at, beaten, kicked and in some cases killed by the perpetrator to coerce, control and entrap victim-survivors in abusive relationships. With domestic abuse being one of the most significant public health concerns that we experience in the UK, combined with the fact that there are animals in over half of all households, their animal fostering service is vital and, in some cases, will save lives.

Victim-survivors of domestic abuse often have to leave with nothing. This is why they supply everything that animals need such as food, bedding and toys. They also cover the cost of any veterinary treatment and medication required.

Here at Vets4Pets we have been so touched by some of their stories we wanted to try and make a difference. It is not easy for Refuge4Pets to raise awareness or fundraise, they cannot post the stories of the gorgeous animals in their care or photos in order to keep them safe.

For most of our team a Half Marathon is going to be an incredible challenge (at this point I've never run further than a 5K) so please give us your support, we're going to need it! And keep your eye out for fundraising events between now and October.
