I am grateful to have been granted a platform in which I can amplify, support and raise awareness of an important cause.

The Leanne Pero Foundation is a charity offering vital help, information and practical advice, primarily for cancer patients and cancer survivors from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

Why is it important to amplify the voices of patients from these communities? Black women with breast cancer have a 40% higher mortality rate compared to white women, are diagnosed at younger ages, are more likely to be diagnosed at a later stage due to late detection of the diseases and are more likely to be diagnosed with more aggressive triple-negative cancer subtypes. We need to change this narrative.

The Leanne Pero Foundation tackles the unique challenges faced by people of colour ensuring we are fully represented in the cancer narrative. By educating healthcare providers, charities, and brands, the foundation helps tailor services to better meet the needs of POC with greater cultural sensitivity and inclusion.

Black Women Rising cancer support project is the flagship programme of The Leanne Pero Foundation and aims to empower women of colour to share their stories and help shape the future of cancer support/treatment services to improve outcomes for POC cancer patients.

As a finalist for Miss Caribbean UK 2025, I wish to extend my impact beyond the four walls of my office working as an administrator in breast cancer clinical research by actively campaigning for this important cause. I kindly ask for your support in helping empower women at every stage of their cancer journey—offering strength, hope, and a voice to those who need it most.
