Story
Please support me and my family raise funds for the wonderful service that is provided by the Dougie Mac Hospice in Stoke on Trent.
On Friday 20th June at 10pm (way after my bedtime!) we're setting off on a 10 Mile walk around the neighbourhood near the DMH hospices. As you will read below, my health is not the best just now.
I feel so passionate about the service I'm receiving from DMH that I am determined to take part, with my wonderful family's support and my trusty eFoldi mobility scooter. I'll be walking a mile, then trundling for 2 miles, throughout the course. This means I should be able to walk the finish line before the battery dies. But it also means my support team will have to take turns pulling along 17kg of folded up scooter while I'm walking. Its a challenge for all of us. Nothing worth doing is ever easy. But then, this is oh-so-worth-doing!
Did you know that Dougie Mac are there to help people with a palliative (incurable/life limiting) diagnosis from the point of diagnosis?
In Autumn 2024 I received the devastating news that I have incurable cancer. Since then my life has become dominated by the three C's: Cancer; Chemo and Control.
I can't control the Cancer or the Chemo but Dougie Mac's excellent Community Services Team, 24/7 helpline and extensive Wellbeing Services are helping me take back control of symptoms, life and choices.
They really are my fourth emergency service. They never hurry me, they listen, they care, and they advocate for me.
I really don't know how I'd be coping with this cancer journey without their involvement.
Dougie Mac is not just a hospice - they are a lifeline.
Its not just end of life care – its life support from the point of diagnosis.
Dougie Mac is at the heart of our community, providing invaluable care and support for those facing life-limiting illnesses. By participating in the Moonlight Walk, you’re directly contributing to our mission of compassionate care.
