Story
On the 6th December 2025, I lost my wonderful husband Jay. He was diagnosed in July with a brain tumour, after having most of it removed, he contracted an infection which he could never fully recover from. He bravely fought as hard as he could but sadly the cancer won. He was an incredible man who touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a caring husband, loving Dad, and a thoughtful son.
Jay always loved dogs, he had dogs round him all his life, from German Shepherds to Jack Russels. For Jay’s birthday back in April we had a holiday of a lifetime. We visited Sal, Cape Verde and booked loads of exciting things from Zip lining down a mountain, dune buggies and a dog rescue centre called OSPA. We were a little concerned about what we would see being a third world country. We were shown around by the volunteers and were astounded by the health and happiness of the dogs they cared for. It wasn’t pretty, in fact they had no running water or electricity but what was abundant was the love for the dogs which was evident in the happiness of these pups. We were astounded by the friendliness and happiness as we were greeted by each and every one. Then the piers de resistance the puppies! We walked into the enclosure and the puppies overwhelmed us with cheek, happy, healthy pups that had been left by the side of the road. After making sure mum was nowhere around for a couple of days and realising that predators were nearby Ospa brought them back and cared for them. One pup in particular chose Jay, jumped into his arms and fell asleep whilst he cradled her, at that point he fell in love with her and out of the blue told me, not asked, but told me he was definitely going to bring her home! We had the honour to name her Nala. Unfortunately whilst we were planning to bring her over to the UK Jay was diagnosed with his brain tumour and we had to make the difficult decision to say no.
This charity rely’s solely on donations from holiday makers that visit and fall in love with them and we felt very passionate about helping them and therefore know that Jay would love any donations to be given to them as he knew this would help them massively and was so close to his heart.
