I'm going to be taking part in the Great Bristol 10k to raise money for kidney research UK,having been diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 19 and having my second kidney transplant in October 2024, my life would have been very different without all the research already done into the condition,however there's still a lot to learn.

Kidney disease is a completely debilitating chronic condition that has no cure,in the advanced stage you have to rely on a machine to keep you alive and to stop your body poisoning itself.

Even after a transplant (which is a treatment not a cure) us kidney patients still make regular visits to a renal clinic and take a cocktail of drugs for the rest of our life to suppress our immune system(so we don't reject the kidney) meaning that relatively minor conditions can make us very ill,they also have side effects ranging from causing musculoskeletal problems such as reducing bone density to giving us an increased risk of certain forms of cancer along with many,many other side effects.
