Story
As with previous years, a small team of Nurses along with a PCA and a Theatre Technician from Grove Veterinary Hospital in Fakenham are planning on a fundraising event.
The challenge this year is different to those of previous, taking place over several days in September.
The team will be travelling to North Wales before kayaking on the Llangollen canal, where they will paddle through 2 tunnels that are each 400 metres in length, and over 2 aqueducts.
-The Pontycysyllte Aqueduct is 300 metres long and over 100 ft high – and no railings!
-The Chirk Aqueduct is 700 metres long and 80 ft high and again no railings.
The team will be kayaking a minimum of 10 miles on this journey.
Once the team have tested their nerves on the heights of the canal they’ll be travelling onwards to Snowdonia and camping at side of Llyn Tegid and paddling a minimum of 9 miles at the foot of the mountains.
The challenge will see the team travelling over 500 miles, camping, paddling at heights and in the mountains all at the mercy of the Welsh Autumn weather.
From travel costs to camping fees, to permits and licenses the team are self funding, meaning that all money donated and raised will go in it’s entirety to the team’s chosen charity.
This year the team have chosen to raise money for Catch and Treat Strays - CATS, Norfolk based near Fakenham. It is a small local charity helping stray and feral cats and kittens. The charity treat and neuter feral cats before either releasing back into their established colonies or finding homes for those that are suitable to be homed. CATS regularly assist in helping to find homes for the many stray cats and kittens that arrive at the Fakenham hospital, and the Dereham and Swaffham clinics.
And of course don’t forget to check for updates regarding the teams fundraiser.
