Abseiling the City Hospital in Memory of My Beautiful Mum and Jill ❤️
On Saturday 10th October, I will be taking on a challenge that is both terrifying and incredibly meaningful to me — abseiling down Belfast City Hospital to raise money for Friends of the Cancer Centre.
I am doing this in loving memory of my beautiful mum, Thelma Smyth, and my cousin and best friend, Jill Hyndman. Both of these incredible women sadly lost their lives to leukaemia.
I chose to abseil down City Hospital because this place holds such a deeply personal meaning for me. My mum was a patient there, on one of the top floors in Ward 10 Haematology, during her battle with leukaemia.
Standing at the top of that building and looking down will undoubtedly bring back so many memories — but I want to turn those memories into something positive. I want to do this in their memory, to honour their lives, their strength and the love they gave to everyone around them.
I know Mum and Jill would probably have a laugh watching me do this — especially knowing how nervous I am! 😂 But if facing my fear can help raise money for people and families going through their own cancer journeys, then it will be worth every second.
Friends of the Cancer Centre does such important work supporting patients and families affected by cancer, helping make an incredibly difficult time that little bit easier.
If you can spare anything at all, I would be incredibly grateful for your donation. Every pound will help. And if you aren't able to donate, simply sharing this page would mean so much to me.
This is for Mum. This is for Jill. This is for everyone fighting cancer. ❤️
Forever loved, forever missed, never forgotten.
Thelma Smyth & Jill Hyndman

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
