Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday 29th March I'll be taking part in the Ultra White Collar Boxing at Bedford Corn Exchange. I'm fighting to raise funds for Parkinson's UK, but I'm also fighting for my Mum.

My Mum was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease about fifteen years ago. At 56yrs old, she was relatively young to have the condition. Parkinson's affects each individual differently, some may suffer with tremors, rigidity, slowness of movement, pain or mental health issues including anxiety & depression. It initially started as an issue with her left leg & after numerous tests she was finally diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. As it progressed it noticeably affected the whole of her left side.

My Mum has always been a strong & active person, so seeing this disease slowly take away her independence has been difficult. I know she really struggles not being able to do simple things most of us take for granted. She's pretty much bed bound these days but recently it's started to affect her cognitive thought & speech.

Every day my Mum fights this disease, she doesn't back down or give in. Even on the days when speech & movement is difficult, I can still see that twinkle of determination in her eyes. She fights for her Husband, she fights for me & she fights for her Grand-Daughter. My Mum is someone I respect, love & admire immensely. She's my rock. She's been my role model for so many things & if there's one thing she's taught me it's, never back down from a challenge!

This is why I'm fighting.
