Walk 10 miles in aid of Lingen Davies Cancer Fund to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Starting in Church Stretton on 14th October 2023.

Story

I'm taking part in the Titty Trail Shropshire, to raise funds for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I'll be walking 10 miles over the Long Mynd with Dave, Conway and a group of my 'cancer pals' - a wonderful bunch of gals that I'm so grateful to have met, in the club that no one ever wanted to join.

All donations for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund are very much appreciated x

My Story:

In September 2019 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, aged 35. I went through 18 months of intense treatment including fertility preservation, chemotherapy, targeted immunotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. This phase of 'active treatment' finished in February 2021, but I remain on hormone suppression medication until 2025, keeping me in a medically induced menopause.

The Challenge:

The aftermath of treatment had a massive impact on me physically, causing severe fatigue and pain on a regular basis. Plus the side effects of my ongoing medication and learning to live with menopause has been a major adjustment too. After a long and slow recovery, I've been working really hard this last year to become more active again, rebuilding my fitness and stamina gradually. I know walking for 10 miles will be a significant challenge for me. After walking up The Wrekin recently (3 miles) my feet and ankles hurt for a week afterwards! But I am determined to do it and mark the 4 year anniversary of my diagnosis in a positive way, raising funds for a charity that is close to my heart.

The Charity:

I'm forever grateful for all the treatment and support I've received. Lingen Davies do so much to improve the quality of life and services available for cancer patients across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales. Their work helps to provide scalp cooling/cold cap machines (something I benefited from during chemo to prevent hair loss), radar keys for disabled toilet access, TVs for the oncology ward, and so much more!
