On 6th October, myself and an amazing team of staff from Serco are taking on a huge challenge: walking 23 miles all the way from Warrington to Manchester — and every single step is extra special, because I’m doing this as my big thank-you and farewell gift before I emigrate to Australia!

We’re raising funds for Families United Warrington — the incredible local charity that has supported my son and our family for so many years. Honestly? I would never have been able to go back to work without their help, care and guidance. They were our lifeline, they changed our lives, and now that I’m preparing to start a new life on the other side of the world, I knew I had to give back in the biggest way I can.

The best news of all: Families United have finally secured their very own building — and we’re raising money for their Big Build project, to turn it into a safe, fully accessible, permanent home where disabled children and their families can meet, play, learn, find support and belong. It’s everything they’ve dreamed of — and I want to help make it a reality before I leave, so this amazing work can carry on growing here long after I’ve gone.

Walking 23 miles is tough — but it’s nothing compared to what these families face every day, and nothing compared to how much this charity has done for us. Doing this alongside my wonderful Serco colleagues makes it even more special — we’re walking together for a cause that matters, leaving a piece of our hearts right here in Warrington.
