Taraneh & Lydia's Mega Walk Marathon!

Taraneh Jahanpour is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Taraneh & Lydia's Mega Walk Marathon! · 6 April 2026

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Welcome to our fundraising page!

Lydia and I are taking on three long walks in Norfolk and Suffolk to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. We're calling it the Mega Walk Marathon!

Our mega walk marathon combines the Norfolk Coast Path -from Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea (84 miles), Wherryman's Way -Norwich to Great Yarmouth (37 miles), and the East Suffolk Lines walk from Lowestoft to Ipswich (71 miles). These routes total 192 miles/310km!

We will take on these journeys in phases, beginning on Easter Monday, 6th April, with a three-day walk to complete the Norfolk Coast Path, stopping off at Stiffkey one night and Mundsley the next; the Wherryman's Way we'll tackle in one go on Friday 26th June. We haven't quite decided the dates for the final route along the East Suffolk railway. We may break that route up into a few day-long walks over several weekends or the summer holidays, or wait for the summer heat to pass and undertake it over October half-term break. We'll share our plans here and on our socials when we've figured them out.

Lydia and I met when I was 2 years old and she was 3, and we've been firm friends ever since. But we don't spend much time together these days, both having very busy lives. What better way to remedy that by spending many hours wending through the beauty and heritage of our home counties and raising money for a great cause as we do it.

And we welcome anyone to walk with us along a stretch of the routes. Just get in touch to let us know where you’d like to join us.

We're raising money for Alzheimer's Society, an organisation that provides much-needed support and advocacy for people living with dementia through advice, groups, training and public awareness campaigns, as well as investing in clinical, biomedical and care research.

My dear mum, Zarreen, was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer's when she was 60, although signs of dementia had appeared for some years before that. I lived with her for six years after the diagnosis until her care was taken out of my hands and she went first to live in dementia hospitals and then into a care home, where she has been for nearly 12 years; she is now 79 years old.

Alzheimer's Society provided Mum and me with a lovely support worker who connected us with different dementia groups and signposted us to other services. I wish there had been more general awareness back then, and more support and advocacy available, so that maybe I could have looked after Mum at home for longer and she might have had a dementia diagnosis earlier and received medication to slow its onset sooner.

I want to support Alzheimer's Society so they can help and support more people like Zarreen and me, and discover the cause and prevention of the disease.
