Gavin and Tarsha Chilvers is raising money for DMT DRSG

DMTDRSG Charity Fundraising Walk 2026 · 6 June 2026

DMT DRSG is a registered charity dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of dachshunds and dachshund crosses, rescuing from the horrific dog meat trades of China and South Korea. DMT DRSG works with boarding and vet facilities in these locations before matching each dog with a home in the UK.

Story

On Saturday, June 6th, 2026, Tarsha takes on her most challenging walk—to raise money and support the charity that saved her.

In March 2025, Tarsha was found on the streets of China. Her spine was broken, and she had skin lesions and open wounds on her feet, legs, and hindquarters from where she had been dragging her paralysed body around. She was seriously malnourished, her skin was flaking, and her ears were full of mites. She was likely used as a breeding bitch for the dog meat trade, and when of no further use, simply thrown out like trash. We hate to imagine what would have happened had she not been found.

Initially, she was handed into a local Chinese rescue center, but after a month of not knowing how to care for a paralysed dog, she was taken on by the truly amazing DMTDRSG - Dog Meat Trade Dachshund Rescue and Support Group.

The DMTDRSG charity's vet recommended referral to the best veterinary surgeon in Beijing who would perform emergency surgery.

Although vets advised Tarsha would likely never walk again due to the 4 to 5-week delay between injury and surgery, the operation would make her life more comfortable and reduce the risk of further damage.

Through surgery, acupuncture, physiotherapy, laser treatments, and the love and care of the dedicated vets, Tarsha made a miraculous recovery. She gained weight and muscle mass and was even given her first set of wheels from where she dragged the vet team around... there was now no stopping Tarsha.

In October, this little miracle was ready for adoption, something our family had waited for. After applying, we were selected for an interview. After this thorough process, we were lucky enough (and over the moon) to be approved as her future forever family. In November 2025, she arrived in the UK and into our lives.

She has been through so much in her short life, but you'd never know; she takes everything in her stride and enjoys life to the full. She is a force to be reckoned with...literally doing everything at full speed, including her recovery.

Over the short time with our family, she has given us so much love, affection, and happiness. We, in return, have helped her improve her strength and stamina in her wheels and walking with slings and a harness. She is making huge improvements, and we believe she has a long way to go yet.

TARSHA would love to give something back to the charity that saved her life and as such she and I (her proud Dad) are taking part in the DMTDRSG charity Fundraising Walk on 6th June 2026.

TARSHA will attempt to walk a 10-mile loop around the magical shore of Loch an Eilean. Whether she manages the full 10 miles or a shorter 5 miles route will depend on how she feels on the day and the ground condition, but one thing for sure, she will try her best to meet the challenge for this wonderful cause and will cross that finish line.....even if it means she needs to be pushed around in her stroller for some of the way.

Please can you help support Tarsha by donating to her fundraising page. Please also share with as many friends, family, or dog pages, dog forums you have joined to spread the word far and wide.

Tarsha's in training now - with warm-up exercises, massage, physio, and hydro... she's a four-legged, two-wheeled athlete and she wants to show her thanks.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to visit Tarsha's JustGiving page.
