Story
Our dedicated team is embarking on an extraordinary challenge: to collectively walk and run a total of 4,080 miles—the equivalent distance from Bedford to Sierra Leone over a two-month period starting on 2 May 2026. The Global Mercy (their main hospital ship) is docked in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
This is a combined team effort, with every mile contributing towards our shared goal. This journey is not just a test of endurance, but a heartfelt mission to raise vital funds for Mercy Ships, a charity that transforms lives through safe and affordable surgery.
Globally, five billion people lack access to essential surgical care when they need it most. Mercy Ships has been tirelessly working since 1978 to bridge this gap, visiting over 70 countries and delivering services valued at more than £1 billion. Their impact is profound—over 2.5 million lives changed and more than 38,000 local health professionals trained to ensure lasting legacies in communities.
A couple of members of our team have personally served aboard the Mercy Ship and witnessed firsthand the life-changing effects of essential oral care. Their stories inspire us every step of the way.
We urgently invite you to join us in supporting this worthy cause by contributing to our "Miles for Smiles" campaign. Every donation brings us closer to our target of £6,000 and helps provide critical medical and dental care where it’s needed most. Together, we can make a lasting difference—one mile at a time.
