Chris Green, Doug Ruggles, Howard Potter and Mark Robson, from Aviva Marine offices in Manchester and London, will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on 6th June to fundraise for Ruddi’s Retreat.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge is a circular walk which encompasses three major peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, the best-known hills in the area.

The route covers 39.2km (24.5 miles) and a total ascent of over 1600m!

Starting in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Pen-Y-Ghent is our first stop, at 694m it is the smallest of the three.

Next up is Whernside, at 736m and the highest of the three peaks, it’s a (very) long gradual ascent to the summit from Pen-Y-Ghent!

Standing at 723m, our last peak will be Ingleborough, before the descent back down to Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

Make no mistake, this is going to be one tough challenge for us - there were many easier things we could have used our free Aviva volunteering days for, but where’s the fun in that!!

A bit about Ruddi’s Retreat….based in the picturesque village of Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire, Ruddi’s is a small charity that has been going for a very impressive 12 years - In that time, the team there have worked incredibly hard to raise enough funds for 5 static caravans in Filey, North Yorkshire and Blackpool, where they provide FREE respite holidays for families and individuals affected by cancer, or life-limiting illnesses, as well as children affected by bereavement.

Additionally, Ruddi's Retreat runs Gwennie’s Getaways, which provides short-term breaks to the caravans for people with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia and their carers.

It’s not been an easy ride for Ruddi’s as over the the last 12 years, they have had to ride out global economic crashes, pandemics, outbreaks of war, Brexit and the energy crisis, all of which puts additional costs on the charity, BUT that hasn’t stopped them from providing over 4,000 families with much needed time away to make memories.
