Story
On August 14th, 2025, David Michael Greenstein, my beloved husband and the father of our two beautiful daughters, Ayla and Bryn, died at home after a 21-month journey with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). David was the rock of our family and is the "D" in Team BAD K (Bryn-Ayla-David-Kara). Our world is profoundly shifted without him.
GBM is the most aggressive and lethal form of primary brain tumor, with a median survival of 12-15 months. It is notoriously resistant to radiation and chemotherapy, and because GBM cells invade healthy brain tissue in a thread-like pattern, 100% surgical removal is currently impossible.
Treatment options and prognosis for GBM have improved little over the last several decades, and brain tumor research in general is underfunded and under resourced relative to the impact of the disease. During his illness, David spoke often of hoping to contribute to a breakthrough in primary brain cancer research someday.
A lofty goal, but Team BADK's first baby step is to give attention to and fundraise for The National Brain Tumor Society and The Brain Tumour Charity -- two highly-rated and effective non-profits invested in brain cancer research and patient/family advocacy.
The National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) is the largest patient advocacy non-profit organization solely dedicated to the brain tumor community in the United States.
The Brain Tumour Charity, a UK-based organization, is the world's leading brain tumor charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumors globally.
Bryn and I are training for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on October 12th as part of The Brain Tumour Charity's team. However, because donations to UK charities are generally not tax-deductible for U.S. citizens, we have established this fundraising page specifically for the National Brain Tumor Society.
For our UK friends, we have a separate page supporting The Brain Tumour Charity.
If you are looking for a way to honor David's memory, or just feel called to help, please consider a donation of any amount.
With Love,
Kara, Ayla, and Bryn
