Team Checkley – London Marathon 2027 for Prostate Cancer UK

We are Chris, Matt, Fran and Laura, and together we're taking on the 2027 London Marathon in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's someone's dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or best mate. Every donation helps fund lifesaving research, improve support services, and raise awareness of a disease that impacts so many families.

For us, this challenge is deeply personal.

We're running in memory of Tony Checkley an incredible husband, Dad, Grandad, friend, and a man who meant so much to so many people.

Through football, his friendships, and the local community, Tony touched countless lives without ever looking for recognition. The love and respect shown for him says everything about the person he was.

Above all else, he was a devoted family man who always put others first. He loved football, gardening, spending time with friends, and most importantly, being surrounded by the people he loved. He was kind, dependable, funny, and the sort of person people naturally gravitated towards.

As a family, we've seen first-hand what prostate cancer can do. The worry, the uncertainty, and the heartbreak it can bring are things no family should have to experience.

Watching Tony's journey showed us just how important awareness and early testing really are. Detecting prostate cancer early can save lives, giving families more time, more treatment options, and more hope.

That's why every mile we run will be for Tony, for families facing this disease today, and for a future where more men are diagnosed earlier and survive longer.

Tony left behind an incredible legacy through his family, his friendships, and the community he loved so much. We hope that, in some small way, this challenge can continue that legacy while helping other families facing the same battle.

There will undoubtedly be some emotional moments along the way, but there will also be plenty of laughs, encouragement, and memories made together as Team Checkley takes on 26.2 miles around London.
