My names Dylan, I'm 13 and I'm fundraising with my mum for the hospital that's looking after me

We are fundraising for the children's hospital youth service for two things.

We're fundraising so that kids with long term health issues like kidney failure can have a residential. Kids on dialysis sometimes find it hard to go on holidays. I haven't gone on holiday on dialysis because it's so hard to transport the dialysis machine, tons of bags of fluid and everything else needed to go somewhere else.

Residentials are where kids that are really ill can go to spend time with other kids that understand along with medical professionals around to help. They are some kids only time away from all the medical stuff. We want to raise £6000 in a year (I know that's probably too much)

We're also fundraising for a new seating area for the Youth Room. It's a place we can go to escape medical stuff and play Xbox or talk to someone. They need some proper seating in there and that's £1400

Dylans story -

Dylan is my incredible son. He was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease aged 5. Since then, he has had years of intensive treatments, involving travelling up and down to London several times a week for 4.5 years, to then reaching end stage renal failure and going onto dialysis. In January 2026, I was lucky enough to be able to donate my kidney to Dylan. Unfortunately, he relapsed several times after that. The team at Nottingham Children's Hospital have worked tirelessly to provide Dylan with the best care possible. They have gone above and beyond not only to keep him happy and comfortable throughout this difficult time, but to secure new emerging treatments to give him the best chance possible of achieving remission.

The Youth Service has played a huge part in supporting Dylan throughout this time. They are the unsung heroes who work in the background to support young people - whether that's advocating for them, liaising with schools and other services or just offering an ear for them to offload.

We are fundraising for the Youth Service to be able to arrange a residential trip for young people with long term, difficult conditions such as Dylan. This will give young people a chance to have a break from the every day difficulties of their conditions, spend time with other young people going through similar, whilst being supported by medical professionals and Youth Workers. Unfortunately, a residential hasn't been possible this year due to a shortage in funding. We are determined to make sure this doesn't happen next year!
