Glasgow Kiltwalk 2024 · 28 April 2024 ·

We help improve the quality of life, mental & physical health, wellbeing, independence & inclusion of people and communities in the East Kilbride locality, by providing relevant services, improving access to other local supports and activities, and working effectively with a wide range of partners.

Story

The Mighty Striders (Lesley, Julie, Stuart, Marc, Megan and Jake) and The Big Strollers (Aaliyah, Lynda, Colette, Doreen, Robyn and Maryanne) are dusting off the hiking boots to walk a whopping 22 miles to raise money for Healthy and Active in East Kilbride!

On the 28th of April 2024, a team of our amazing staff, volunteers, service users, friends and family will be talking part in this year’s Kiltwalk to raise funds for Healthy and Active in East Kilbride. Some are overcoming health barriers themselves but have committed to an extraordinary challenge of walking either 14 or 22 miles. The funds raised will help to sustain Healthy and Active’s vital services and we would greatly appreciate it if you could dig deep and sponsor us. Please also take the time to share this post so it reaches as many as possible, we would be extremely grateful.

As a charity, Healthy and Active in East Kilbride has adapted and grown to support local challenges and provided ongoing support where needed. In a time where vital community halls are under threat of closure, we have managed to keep The Meeting Place and Shopmobility service running as we know how much of a lifeline it is to those living in East Kilbride. Through growing and adapting our charity, we have been able to reach more people than ever before, providing essential support at home - delivering food shops, prescriptions, books and regular check in calls, a friendly voice making sure people are okay, which is sometimes that’s all that is needed if someone is stuck at home.

Throughout the 21 years of the charity, we have been overwhelmed by the stories we hear from local people about the impact we have made in their lives.

We have been able to do this incredible work through support from funders and local people, who have a shared aim and desire to help the community. Funding cuts are affecting everyone including Healthy and Active. That’s why we’ll be out walking for Healthy and Active on the 28th April. We know we need to keep our services going, after all where would people be without them!

We cannot thank you enough for the support you have given us over the years, and now we’re asking you to help share the vital work of Healthy and Active and donate anything you can. It all helps!

Look out for the stories of people taking part in the Kiltwalk, photographs of us out training (that might be interesting!) and stories of people we support who are willing to share their stories.

Yours always,

The Healthy and Active Team
