Story

The Lily Foundation was founded in Lily's memory, having lost her battle to Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old. The charity aims to give hope, answers and support to the many other children and families that face the challenges of this disease today. Did you know every twenty minutes a child is born who will develop Mitochondrial Disease by the age of 16! There is no cure for this disease which is for many, debilitating and life limiting. Please stand with us and fight Mitochondrial Disease and fight for hope.

Inspired by the amazing Matilda who has mitochondrial disease we are fundraising for The Lily Foundation to help them beat mito and give hope.

In April 2024, Matilda was admitted to hospital and put in an induced coma after suffering a seizure. After four days on an Intensive Care Unit, Matilda was brought out of her coma and spent some time on a ward. Matilda's seizure was explained genetic testing led to her diagnosis of Pol-G related Mitochondrial Disease.

After her discharge from hospital, Matilda showed true resilience in regaining her balance and sight, both of which were affected by her her seizure.

Over the past two years, Matilda has continued to grow into a wonderful young girl who loves school, the outdoors and playing and giggling with her little sister. She makes her family smile and feel pride on a daily basis.

Trekking the 24 mile Yorkshire Three Peaks is the second Team Matilda event to raise money for the Lily Foundation, who work to support children and families affected by mitochondrial disease and to support research into beating mito.
