Stand Against MND is proud to present 'Team SAM' who will be running the London Marathon 2026 and raising funds for the MND Association.

Stand Against MND was inspired and founded by Sam Perkins in 2020 following his diagnosis of motor neurones disease (‘MND’) at the age of just 37 and, to this day, continue to raise funds to support research into a cure for MND and palliative care provided by hospices.

Our founder, Sam Perkins, was an inspiration to us all and in the face of such a devastating diagnosis, he was determined to make positive change for the future, knowing he was unlikely to personally see any benefit.

Sam fought MND fiercely until his passing on 9 February 2025 and we are honoured to continue his legacy through his family, friends and of course his charity.

Sam passionately believed that MND isn’t incurable - it is just underfunded. Stand Against MND shares that belief and is proud to have provided funding support to organisations such as the MND Association to help advance research into a cure and deliver much needed support and guidance to those affected by MND.

Sam was a true fighter and raised awareness and funds through a range of wild and crazy challenges undertaken by himself and others who he corralled along the way including: One More Tri, One More Marathon (London 2023), the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and ‘Buckled, not Broken’ (London Marathon 2024).

Continuing Sam’s legacy, we are thrilled to have ‘Team SAM’ raising funds for the MND Association by running the London Marathon 2026. Team SAM consists of three familiar faces who have been involved in many of Sam’s previous challenges, Tom, Steph and Neil, and a new member to the team, Mandy. Sam’s purpose with these challenges was primarily to raise awareness and funds for MND research and care, but he was also passionate about inspiring others to challenge themselves. This is Mandy’s first marathon so we offer her an especially warm welcome to Team SAM.

We thank you for joining us in our Stand Against MND and raising funds for the MND Association.
