Story

Good day rally fans, Team SNAFU are delighted to confirm that we ride again in this years Household Cavalry Veterans Car Rally!

The Story:

Team SNAFU consists of 2 ex-Household Cavalrymen, Alex & Paul, that have over 60 years combined military service between them who will be competing in the 8th annual rally instalment 12th - 14th May, along with 13 other teams, taking us to several French WW1 battlefields, in cars bought for no-more than £1,000, the entire cost of which is funded completely by ourselves with the considerable kind assistance of some sponsors

The aims of the rally are:

a. To provide an opportunity for veterans of the Household Cavalry and some select civilians to come together and raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity. (this year is Combat Stress)

b. To visit the battlefields and memorials of The Great War and learn about this defining moment in world history and to pay our respects to the glorious fallen.

d. To drink beer (whilst not driving)

Location:

The Rally will start early Friday morning at the Port of Dover, Kent before crossing The Channel on a DFDS Ferry (thank you for supporting all the teams taking part by generously discounting their return fares) then driving via several checkpoints, to the sites of many battlefields including Cambrai and Verdun, taking-in the significance and history along the way before the finish line in Reims, culminating in prize giving on Saturday evening before returning home on Sunday, while raising as much funds as possible for our beneficiary charity.

Charity:

This year our chosen charity is Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century they have helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today they provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues. The work they do is life-changing and often life-saving, no one else does what they do, for details see: https://combatstress.org.uk/

Finally a special thank you to our main car sponsors who have been extremely generous once again assisting us both in previous rally's and now with this latest venture, they are Pull The Pin, whose logo you will see all-over our car, "thanks guys" (see: https://www.pullthepinspirits.com/)

Thank you for taking the time in reading our post and please feel free to donate what ever you can afford in the lead-up to the rally.

Best wishes

Alex Gaddes & Paul Halfhide
