Story

We're a father and daughter team, who have been given the amazing opportunity to run the 2026 London Marathon together in aid of a fantastic cause; Spinal Research

Both Ellie and I are keen runners, but as I'm now an overweight, 'has-been' with dodgy knees, this will be my last opportunity to fulfil my dream of completing a marathon alongside my daughter.

When we first heard about the opportunity to help raise money for such a powerful cause whilst coinciding it with something we both enjoy, it was an easy ''count us in''

Through mutual colleagues, we have become very friendly with an inspiring character who was once told he would never walk again following a life changing snowboarding accident back in 2008.

Against all odds, he has not only managed to walk again with the aid of sticks, but has also took on and completed the Ironspire Challenge and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Spinal Research in the process.

After listening to Paul's endearing story and appreciating his journey over the last 17 years, we both realise how important the ongoing research and charity support network is.

With the progressive research and new treatment opportunities, it could make a massive difference to the lives of thousands of people in the UK affected by paralysis

Just to be part of the fundraising process is a pleasure.

Background

Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. It can happen to anyone at any time, changing lives instantly.

When the spinal cord is injured it affects far more than the ability to walk. Paralysis impacts movement, sensation, continence, breathing, and much more.

At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Together, we can cure paralysis.
