Story

EMILY & HARRIET:

We need help with Dad’s next challenge and this one is a family affair! This time the challenge is to not only to run the London Marathon but to run it with his two daughters! Can he handle it? Well psyching himself up and getting himself round in one piece was one thing but managing to keep us two running, happy, watered and surviving through 26.2 miles will certainly be another!!

But in all seriousness why are we doing it and why do we still need your support?

Daily people of all ages are still being diagnosed with bowel cancer. Today, the statistics are terrifying, and for us it takes us back to that day in 2018 when Laura was diagnosed. A day we will never forget and still fills my heart with dread. So we will keep running in Laura’s memory, because before and during her wild ride with bowel cancer, all she wanted was for people to fight for her, to give a damn and to push for the best that each person deserves, even if it was just to make life a little easier. Living with cancer is one of the most difficult things people have to go through and if we can help others and just to make it a little easier for those going through it then that will be making Laura smile too. Running is just putting one foot in front of the other and if Lol and thousands like her can live with the pain - both the seen and unseen pain - of cancer every day then we can run … even if it is a marathon … I hope!

Any donations, words of encouragement, training support and even sharing of this page will be so gratefully received.

DAD- Mike

On October 2nd 2022 I ran the London Marathon and since then I have run over 1000 miles in organised events including London Marathon again in April 2024, and The Great North twice in 2023 & 2024, all in memory of Laura, my eldest daughter as well as to raise funds for the cancer Charities: - Bowel Cancer Uk, The Christie and Rosemere Foundation. . Thanks to some amazing people I have raised an incredible total of £33,636 which is absolutely brilliant. So thank you so much to everyone. I didn't think it fair to ask again - but I am ! 'Cos ******* Bowel Cancer is still with us ! And LondonMarathon is going to prove to be the most emotional !

This time I am raising the bar, as well as the stakes!! In September I am running an Ultra (56Km) round the Island of Tiree followed by 3 marathons, back to back in the space of 2 weeks - Brighton Marathon on April 12th, Manchester Marathon on 19th and London Marathon a week later on April 26th. I have no idea at all whether I can do it ! especially the Ultra and the 3 marathons.

BUT - If I have half the courage in completing these runs, that Laura showed in battling Cancer, then I will have no problem at all , . I'm keeping Laura in the front of my thoughts and I know she will be watching me and encouraging me yet again - "Go on Dad you can do it !"

Even more exciting (if that's the right words) I'm going to run the final marathon with our two daughters Emily and Harriet, with amazing support as ever from their mum, Julia.
