Team's fundraiser for Blood Cancer UK

Team BU is raising money for Blood Cancer UK
In memory of Barry Squires

Bournemouth Bay Run 2026 · 22 March 2026 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Barry was tragically diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, and after a long period of chemo treatment he was ready to receive stem cell treatment once a bone marrow match and donor was found. Barry undertook this treatment after showing great personal strength to come through these early stages, and initially it appeared that the procedure had been a success.

Weeks later it became clear that the Leukaemia had returned and Barry was going to be unable to beat this terrible disease a second time. He passed away peacefully in his wife's arms.

Barry was a bright, dynamic, charismatic, and ambitious individual who will be missed by all who knew him. As friends and colleagues of Barry, we are trying to raise some money in his honour.
